JIG Consulting Engineers Ltd achieves ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and RISQS

JIG Consulting Engineers are consulting civil, structural and geotechnical engineers based in the north west and were founded in 2016. The Company provides construction solutions working with clients to solve problems of all sizes. The JIG team work with a range of clients from small local firms to large international contractors, specialising in temporary works and ground engineering.  The team have developed an integrated Business Management System to the Standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. The System was developed to be simple, straightforward and easy to manage with clear linkages througout, designed to provide an underpinning structure for the business and in line with best practice. The System was subject to an assessment by BSI in April 2019 and achieved certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 with no non-conformances and praise from the assessors for the way the system is structured, owned and managed. The team added to their success in July 2019 when their system was successfully assessed by RISQS (Railway Industry Supplier Qualfication Scheme). It is no surprise that JIG Consulting Engineers goes from strength to strength and we wish them many congratulations!

International Applications achieves ISO 45001!

International Applications is a global coatings and consumables supply chain specialist based in Banbury. The Business has been certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and
BS OHSAS 18001 with ACM certification for some time. This November they have successfully improved and migrated their OH&S management System to the new Standard ISO 45001, eight months after the Standard was released in March 2018. This has been achieved through the development of a fully integrated management system with strong business planning incorporating business risks and opportunities related to the quality of service and to environmental and OH&S controls driving clear objectives for improvement. The Business has an ethos of communication, consultation and participation at all levels which is key to the ISO 45001 Standard. This ethos has helped ensure that the risk asessment process and controls are effective, that OH&S performance is monitorred and improved and that change is managed proactively.

International Applications is the first Ladbroke Consulting client to achieve ISO 45001 - our congratulations to them!

We have prepared a briefing note to help existing BS OHSAS 18001 clients to migrate to ISO 45001 - Just go to the home page and click on the link at the bottom of the page!

The new OH&S Standard ISO 45001:2018 is here .....

Those of you who are recognised to BS OHSAS 18001 will be aware that the new Standard ISO 45001:2018 was finally released in March 2018. A number of Ladbroke Consulting clients are working their way through the migration to the new Standard. Ladbroke's Nicki Norgate completed lead audit training to ISO 45001 in May 2018. The majority of clients who are certified to BS OHSAS 18001 are also certified to ISO 9001. This makes the migration to ISO 45001 much easier as the high-level structure of both Standards is the same and you will already have considered the context of the organisation and business risk and opportunity. Here are some key things you need to bear in mind as you migrate your System to the new Standard:

  1. You need to consider not just OH&S risks but also OH&S opportunities and link these to the business level risks and opportunities you have identified in your System.

  2. There is much greater emphasis on participation and consultation involving non-managerial workers in the new Standard (clause 5.4). We think that this is the most significant development and will possibly present some organisations with challenges.

  3. The new Standard requires that you have a process for managing change. We think that this is a good idea. It covers business changes which may have an impact on health and safety performance and your process for ensuring that changes are managed through your business level and operational level OH&S risks and opportunities.

We are going to produce some guidance on how to develop an ISO 45001 migration plan and publish this on this website - watch this space!

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Transition progress...

Ladbroke Consulting clients are making good progress with their transition plans to the new versions of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, with many of you now having successfully completed the transition. For those that have yet to start, there is still plenty of time as the deadline is September 2018. However the earlier you start the easier the transition is.

We are finding that Certification bodies are varying considerably in their approach to transition assessments, with some of them requiring the client to complete and submit a readiness for transition review or gap analysis before assessment, some of these are fairly lengthy documents. If your certification body requires a readiness for review submission before assessment, don't worry, we can complete these for you and liaise with the certification body. On 2 occasions recently an assessor turned the readiness for review exercise into a  transition assessment, when it was perfectly clear on the  site visit that the client  met the Standard.

This saved the client a day's unnecessary fees. So do let us help. Contact Nicki at the office or on 07710 200522 or at

Ladbroke Consulting and Training Achieves ISO 9001:2015!

ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 were released as planned in September 2015. To ensure that we are able to advise clients in transitioning to the new Standards we submitted Ladbroke Consulting's Quality Management System for an early assessment to the ISO 9001:2015 Standard as soon as possible after it was released. Gordon Newstead from LRQA visited on October 5th and we passed with no non-conformances or observations. We understand from LRQA that we are one of the first Organisations in the Country to achieve the Standard!

Ladbroke Consulting's Nicki Hoyte is now lead audit trained to both ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 and has spent the summer designing and developing training materials to the new Standards.

The good news is that the revisions do not mean significant changes need to be made to your System.

Very briefly this is what it amounts to:

Most of the changes are at the front end (planning section) of your System

1. You need to be clear about the context in which you operate - identify the external and internal issues which affect your purpose and interested parties relevant to your System. (Being thorough about identification of interested parties and not missing any is 'key').
2. Planning needs to include an analysis of business risk and opportunity and actions to address them and you need to be clear about how you will evaluate the effectiveness of the actions taken.
3. 1 and 2 need to be taken into consideration when you develop objectives which must be specific and measurable and for which you need to include who will do what by when.
4. There is increased emphasis on the involvement of top management.
5. Due to the emphasis on 'risk'  preventive actions have been removed from the Standards.
6. The new Standards are much less prescriptive about documentation. Documents and Records are replaced by 'Documented Information' This does not mean that you have to throw away your manual or procedures if they work for you.

The changes above relate to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Changes to the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Standards!

Many of you will be aware that both the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 Standards are currently undergoing revision. There has been much discussion about when the ISO 9001 Standard would be revised with views varying from 2015 to 2018. However, committee draft versions of both revised Standards are now available for consultation and the BSI website indicates that the final version of the new ISO 14001 Standard will be released in early 2015 and the new ISO 9001 Standard will be released at the end of 2015. The changes should not deter organisations just embarking on either of these Standards in their current format as they will both be around for a while yet and there will be a lengthy transition period to allow clients already certified to upgrade to the new versions. Ladbroke Consulting will be developing some workshops to cover the changes and interpretation of both new Standards as soon as possible after the Standards are released. Also keep an eye on this news page as we will be publishing a blog on the key changes planned to both Standards. The committee drafts of the Standards are now available to buy from the BSI websit

18 March 2013

Those of you who are registered to ISO IEC 27001 may be interested to know, if you don't already, that the Standard is currently being rewritten and the new Standard is due to be published at the end of 2013. There is no need to panic as there will be a one to two year transition period and also a period of time during which new registrations will be allowed against the new Standard. These time scales will be set by UKAS and will be announced when the new Standard is published. A number of improvements are being built into the new Standard and a major improvement is the move to restructure the Standard in line with other Management System Standards. More information is available on the BSI website
